One of several clay maquettes - sandcast into bronze - inspired by the squirrel monkeys at Blackpool zoo, especially their pose when sleeping. This small clay sketch was futher developed into larger works: Roll-up I and II

Inspired by images of chimpansees in their natural habitat, this small maquette - sandcast from a clay original - explores the solidity and stillness of a single sitting ape. The limitation of the sandcasting process further enhances the podlike nature of the form.
